1. The Environment & Social Justice Department
The MSA Environment & Social Justice Department and elected officebearers facilitate student involvement in sustainability and social justice, both on campus and in the wider community. If you want to help create a more earth-friendly campus, or would like to campaign on environmental issues beyond Clayton, drop into the MSA Environment and Social Justice Office or call 9905 5710 or email nils.wiebkin@adm.monash.edu.au or callum.bryant@adm.monash.edu.au

What we do?
On campus, we work with the university towards building more sustainable campuses through minimising consumption of water, paper and energy; purchasing and use of renewable energies, recycled paper and other eco-friendly products; minimising waste and maintaining effective recycling and composting programs. We also support and assist wider student campaigns on issues like protection of old-growth forests, fair trade, indigenous justice, refugee rights, and climate change.

The Environment Department offers a Re-Zap Battery Program. Drop your used batteries off in the Environment Department and pick up recharged batteries for a small coin donation. Re-Zap takes all alkaline batteries.

2. The Environment & Social Justice Collective
The Monash Environment and Social Justice Collective is a network of groups and individuals working together to realize their own goals, desires and visions around social and environmental change. It ensures diversity and that all people can participate equally and take responsibility for the change they want to see.

The Environment and Social Justice Collective determines its own role, though there are a few fundamental principles upon which it was founded upon:
  • inclusive of all forms of organising for Environment and Social Justice, whether it be direct action, educational, advocacy, publicity, domestic and fun,
  • functions as a non-hierarchical consensus body,
  • includes groups and individuals with similar interests,
  • a network and resource hub between existing groups on campus that have different roles,
  • empowers its members and participants by providing opportunities for members,
  • recognises and consistently demonstrates the inexorable links between environmental degradation and social injustice - issues that cannot be separated.

The Environment and Social Justice Collective involves and supports the following groups:

Engineers Without Borders

Biological Society

Climate Change Action Group

Pedal Australia for Clean Energy

Monash Weather and Climate Society

Monash Greens

Green Campus Program

Wholefoods Restaurant

Monash Environment Group

Monash Indigenous Solidarity Collective

4. Community Garden
Monash Community Garden is underway, located at the corner of the Campus centre and the Chemistry labs at Clayton campus. It aims to provide a working example of sustainable food cultivation, education and to build community.

For more information and to get involved, contact: environment.msa@adm.monash.edu.au

5. Monash Organic Vege-Box Co-Op
Are you interested in getting a box of organic vegies each week to feed a family of four for around $30.00 or a couple for only $15.00?

The Monash Uni organic fruit and vegetable co-operative was formed from the simple idea that by working together, we can purchase fresh, organic vegetables at budget-friendly wholesale prices. It is a non-profit, co-operatively run venture -- owned, controlled, and run by its members alone.
