Host Scheme takes the edge off starting Uni and not knowing where to go or how to fit in. Run by students who have been there, done that, Host Scheme runs camps, tours, a festival day and a huge party attended by more than 2,500 students. If you're a new student, take part by coming to one of the camps held in February. They're subsidised for Clayton students, they're at the beach, it's summer and they're loads of fun.

3. Aims & History

Host Scheme is an orientation program for new students of Monash University Clayton Campus. Getting used to University life is vital and Host Scheme's aim is to provide the best orientation experience in the universe.

The program began in 1974, has grown every year, and is currently the largest University orientation program in the southern hemisphere.

4. Camps

As part of this student-run program, Host Scheme offers a number of 3-day camps at the spectacular Lord Somers Campsite. Along with 120 new students just like yourself, you will be involved in a wild night of trivia followed by a themed night of fun and frivolity. In your spare time, you can relax in the friendly coastal environment, join in the many activities made available or swim with the resident wild dolphins at the beach. This non-stop action introduction into university life helps to eliminate any possibility of a potentially daunting transition into the Monash Clayton community.

5. Local Functions

Host Scheme Functions are a very important element of the Host Scheme program. Held in the week prior to O-week every year, Host Scheme functions provide new students with an opportunity to meet other new students prior to even their first day on campus. Functions are a fun, inexpensive and accessible way of meeting new people, and range from things like BBQs, bowling, a day at the beach, coffee and cake, pool party, and many more things fun and social.

Your Host will be a current student at the University, who lives in your area so that you won't have to travel too far. In your group, there will be up to twenty other students from your area and/or faculty. Functions in 2008 will be held during the week starting Monday the 11th and ending Sunday the 17th of February.

6. Host Scheme Day & Night

9am - Free Breakfast

Host Scheme Day begins at 9am with a free breakfast brought to you by those friendly awesome shirted students again. Rock on up to the Robert Blackwood Hall courtyard (click here for a map of the university) to get your free breaky!

9:30am/11:30am - Official Campus Welcome

After breakfast head on into the Robert Blackwood Hall for the official Campus Welcome. This session is a must for all new students as it contains vital information about the university, services and programs offered.

10:30am/12:30pm - Campus Tours

Following the Campus Welcome, it's time to get an official tour of the campus. These tours are run by students and will be faculty specific, so make sure you know which faculty you're in before you arrive. You can do it now or spend the whole semester being late and lost. It's your call!

The tour leaders will be senior students who study in your particular faculty - they'll be able to show you all the "special" locations you'll need to find during Week 1. If you don't want to be lame, GO ON A TOUR!

12:30pm Onward - Free Lunch and Carnival Afternoon

Your tour will end at the Host Scheme Day festivities on the Lemon Scented Lawns, where entertainment, rides, and a free lunch will be provided for all students. It will rock.

Relax, enjoy the entertainment, meet some new friends and chill the afternoon away on the Lemon Scented Lawns. You could also do the all-important library tour during the afternoon. The truth is, even I use the libraries.

For all students over the age of 18 - don't forget to purchase your ticket to Host Scheme Night!

8:00pm - Host Scheme Night at Queensbridge Hotel (Melbourne)

Put on your party shoes and best outfit and join another 2000 students at the biggest university party of the year. In the downstairs bar, rad alternative bands will be ripping it up, whilst upstairs the hottest Melbourne DJ's will be smashing the latest house and commercial hits. So if you're into dancing, chatting, listening to live music (i.e. fun) or just want to meet new Monash Clayton students then make sure you come along to Host Scheme Night. Tickets will be on sale during Host Scheme Day, at camps and at Fun Day. This event always sells out, always rocks out, and always makes a huge dent in the Melbourne social calendar, so make sure you pre-purchase your tickets!
