Academic Rehabilitation
If you have been excluded for poor academic progress, you are allowed to apply to Monash again after one year. All faculties like to see some evidence of "academic rehabilitation" to show that you are capable of passing your subjects here. This information may also help if you decide to try applying for other insitutions as part of an early back-up plan as well.

1. What is "Academic Rehabilitation"?
Normally, the minimum requirement is to do two university-equivalent subjects and receive a satisfactory result in them. The letter that you receive from the faculty will outline what they consider appropriate. The letter will also explain the procedures for applying to Monash for readmission- most faculties require you to reapply through VTAC, but some will allow you to apply directly to the faculty. If you wish to take subjects for academic rehabilitation, it is wise to speak to someone from your faculty about what they will accept, and whether or not you will be granted credit for it towards your degree. The granting of credit for subjects done outside of Monash is not automatic, and each faculty has its own policy. Don't forget to try ringing the schools or faculties that you are interested in directly to enquire about possible direct, late entry. Local students can also ask about mid-year intakes. Remember, any academic rehabilitation is generally better than none, and it is better to spend some time studying at another institution, even if it isn't one that you would otherwise have considered, and then come back to Monash rather than cutting off your options too early.
2. After you have done your Academic Rehabilitation
Once your year is up, the Student Rights Service at Clayton is happy to help you reapply to your course, if the faculty has requested that you do this directly to them.
Even if you do not wish to reapply to Monash, the following institutions might be a good place to continue on with your study.

Web: http://www.ola.edu.au
Offers Bachelor, Diploma and Certificate courses in Arts,
Communication and General Studies. OUA acts as an
umbrella for different universities to offer various individual
units that then go to make up a degree from a host institution.
International students should note that OUA is not a
registered CRICOS provider, but as a distance learning
organisation, you are able to study through OUA in your
home country. Open Universities offers an opportunity for
flexible learning, and its term dates generally work well for
students who have been excluded and have missed
application dates for other institutions.
CAE and TAFES
There are various other smaller institutions in Melbourne,
Victoria, and Australia that you might want to consider. These
often (but not always) offer CRICOS diploma and certificate
courses (so international students can study there), and their
enrolment dates can even run into February. For a full listing
of TAFES and CAE courses, have a look at the following
websites:
http://www.tafe.vic.gov.au/
http://international.cae.edu.au/index.php
You might also want to try looking at the VTAC website, and similar websites for other states for other opportunities. VTAC now requires all applications to be made on-line, and they have strict cut-off dates. http://www.vtac.edu.au
Monash University is obliged to report international students to DIMIA once they have been excluded, and DIMIA will the cancels their visas within 28 days. If your visa is cancelled, you are prevented from reapplying for a new visa for three years. You may make a case to the Migration Review Tribunal not to have your visa cancelled. Because of this, you should note that there may be difficulties in transferring your visa to another provider, even if you are accepted into a course in a new institution. We recommend you visit a reputable migration agent or lawyer if you wish to continue to study in Australia.
The following institutions are also registered CRICOS providers and might offer appropriate courses:
- Australian Catholic University
- Holmesglen Institute of TAFE
- James Cook University- Melbourne Campus
- Melbourne University Private > Mt Eliza Business School
- University of Ballarat
