The MSA Welfare Office works year-round to run programs like the Survival Centre and Free Food Mondays. Not everyone has the same access to simple resources, like a home, a computer, food and a living income, all of which affect their life at university, and the Welfare service works to assist these students.

Semester 1 Welfare Programs

1. Welfare Department
2. Free Food Mondays

3. Welfare Collective
4. Survival Centre

5. Free Refurbished Computer (Monash Computer Co-op)

1. Welfare Department
We recognise that not all students will have the same kind of experience at university, and that students from different racial and religious backgrounds, of different ages, students with children, students with disabilities and students of different sexual orientations may all feel disadvantaged or isolated at university, or
just have different needs.

2. Free Food Mondays
Free Food Mondays runs throughout semester.

You can get a free meal up in the Airport Lounge at 7:30pm every Monday night during semester. Everyone is welcome!

Volunteers are desperately needed for this program, cooking starts at 5pm in Wholefoods kitchen - without cooks there will be no food! In particular we need volunteers to wash up afterwards – if you help with this you will be rewarded with dessert!

3. Welfare Collective
Interested in helping out your fellow students and running welfare campaigns, come along to welfare collective.

Contact: welfare.msa@adm.monash.edu.au for more details.

4. Survival Centre
Emergency food and clothing, as well as some donated text books, crockery, cutlery and other items, is available in the Survival Centre, upstairs in the MSA around the corner from the John Medley Library. There are also microwaves, a toaster and a sandwich press available (as of Week 3) for you to come and heat up your food at lunchtime.

Contact: welfare.msa@adm.monash.edu.au for more details.

5. Free Refurbished Computer (Monash Computer Co-op)
The Monash Computer Co-Op refurbishes old computers for students who otherwise cannot afford them. It works on the basis of student involvement, and asks that recipients do something to help to keep the program running. This can be either technical or non-technical tasks.

If you need a computer and don't have the money to buy a new one - please pick up a form from the MSA reception desk, fill it out and return it to the Welfare Office (stick it under the door if the Welfare Officer is not there).

To get in contact with the Welfare Officer:
9905 5336 - welfare.msa@adm.monash.edu.au

Or go to the Engineers Without Borders website to find out more: http://ewb.monashclubs.org/MCCO

Volunteer: Volunteers are needed for a range of tasks including building computers, installing software and sourcing computer donations from university departments and companies. The Co-op aims to educate students about computers, so even if you have no technical experience and wish to learn please come along. We hold regular working bees, usually on Saturdays, where volunteers are rewarded with a free lunch. Please contact the Welfare Officer on welfare.msa@adm.monash.edu.au for details of the next working bee.

Donate: The Co-op also relies on donations of computer parts and second-hand machines, so please donate your old computer. For information on how to donate please contact the Welfare Officer by emailing: welfare.msa@adm.monash.edu.au
